The extraordinary 2012 Ford Focus SEL

During last week’s Green Car Convoy, which concluded its prelude to the Denver Auto Show at the Capitol on Sunday with the Green Car Parade, one of the cars in which a lot of seat time was logged was the 2012 Ford Focus SEL five-door.
We were first surprised at how quickly and effortlessly it synced up the iPhone, playing the tracks from my iTunes app cordlessly. This is frequently a tedious and/or confusing process in many cars. This was simply the first revelation experienced in this extraordinary little car.
Next, as our first drive took us toward Boulder via I-25 and Highway 36, we were surprised at the steady and unstrained acceleration, which seemed to defy the diminutive size of the 2.0-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine.
Ford has managed to wring 20 percent more power and 10 percent greater economy out the power plant by the judicious application of high-pressure direct injection with twin independent variable camshaft timing coupled to a six-speed Ford PowerShift automatic transmission utilizing a high-efficiency dual dry-clutch design.
